My cat sleeps on counters, not beds. Is this normal cat behavior?

Cats sometimes display very unusual behaviour and possibly can choose quite awkward spots for sleeping with no apparent reasons (usually the temperature of the place where they sleep can be a major factor). Yes, cats love to curl up on people or touching them especially when it’s cold. My male cat is very vocal and he talks when he wants something so that is probably what going on with yours. That sounds like normal cat behavior. She is very comfortable with you and loves you. If you can't have her bothering you, like when you are practicing piano, it is best to put her in another room until you are done. I don't think there is anything wrong with her as long as she is eating, drinking, peeing and pooping normally.

Yes, this is also common behavior. One of my cats sleeps nestled in the crook of my neck at night, another likes sleeping on my hip or chest at night. Cats like it warm, so sleeping on your body is like a heating blanket for them, and at the same time they feel secure.

Hello, it sounds like an odd behavior. There could be some degree of territorial aggression amongst them either over the bed itself or you. If this problem persists, ideally you should get rid of what is triggering the behavior. Not allowing for both of them to be in the room at the same time vs not allowing them to be in the room at all. Alternatively, you can try to use feline pheromone diffuser products such as Feliway. This may be used to decreased stress and anxiety in pets and may help reduce or eliminate the unwanted behavior. Hope this helps and best of luck.

If you took her to a vet and she appears healthy than it just might be her personality. Some cats prefer to hide from people and are not very social while other cats are very social and love to be around people. If she is eating well and maintaining a healthy weight than it might not be anything to worry about. If you are still concerned than you could take her back to the vet and have them run routine bloodwork looking for potential problems.

First for your sanity, at night I would confine him so he isn't keeping you up at night. Put him in the basement (with food, water and litter boxes) or a separate room. That will keep him from getting in to things and allow you to sleep. The good news is that he will grow out of this behavior, he is very young still. As for getting up on the counters, etc: cats like high places. First provide alternatives, get a couple of cat trees or other things to enrich his environment. Make sure all food is put away and the facet doesn't drip so he isn't attracted to the counters. Then you have to make the counters unpleasant: cover the counters with textures cats hate — aluminum foil is one example; cardboard covered with double-faced masking tape or shelf liner is another. No, you won’t have your counters covered forever, but you will need to keep them covered while your cat learns to use the new perches. For the more determined cat, you can look at harmless automatic devices that discourage counter cruising by making sounds cats dislike when they trigger a pressure pad or electronic eye by jumping up.
