I would say Joey is a large breed dog based on his mix of breeds. I recommend feeing him a high quality large breed dog food. These foods will have joint support, which is great for bigger dogs. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I hope this helps!

Decreasing her eating amount after a growth spurt is normal. They probably recommended large breed puppy so she wouldn’t grow to fast which can cause bone problems. Once she’s full grown I recommend regular adult food. No reason to do either large breed or small breed since she will be medium size. I don’t think grain free food is worth it. I like a well balanced dog food such as Hills. They do research on their food and include the optimum amount of nutrients, rather than excess. Your breed could become overweight so please adjust the quantity of food to keep her on the lean side. Hills does have some Natural foods, and many speciality foods such as those for sensitive skin and stomach, joints, weight management, and for medical problems also. My dogs start on Hills and stay on for life, changing the specific food as they grow, and even into their senior years, or with medical problems. There is a lot of advertising to sell different dog foods but I like to base my choice on scientific research, not hype. Lifetime large breed dog food is formulated for all life stages, including puppies. Since he is already 60 pounds, you can begin to transition him to this diet at any time. Please switch diets gradually by mixing the old and new diets together for 5-7 days to ease the transition.

Grains are very rarely the cause of any skin issues so switching Kyya to a normal, grain containing diet is recommended. Keep in mind that the link is not understood but as long as the pet is not showing signs of heart disease, changing the diet will help avoid any heart pathology. The brand I like best is Royal Canin. You would pick the large breed formula. I also like Purina ProPlan. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

I use the large breed adult food from 9 months on. I like the dogs to grow a little slower to prevent bone problems. Soska will reach her full size but it will just take a little longer with less bone and joint issues. I usually mix the new food with the old food for a week or two so she doesn't get a stomach upset. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Soska.
