The best supplement for kidney health is water. There are not any specific supplements other than that are known to prevent kidney problems. There are supplements that are important for them to get when they are in kidney failure, but are not necessary before then. Canned food is a good way to encourage water intake and you can even add a little more water to it for increased water consumption. It's also good to have fresh, clean, water always available. I hope that helps and all is well with Mel.

Usually we do end up giving some sort of supplementation to cats with severe IBD. However if their intestines are not absorbing things normally often we have to get the supplementation as injections. This is something your veterinarian could do or even teach you how to do. I recommend contacting them to set this up.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Lady Patches is losing weight, it can definitely be due to her dental disease. However, other causes for weight loss include underlying medical conditions such as hyperthyroidism, diabetes, IBD, and cancer - all of these and others can be ruled out by your vet. You can definitely encourage Lady Patches to eat more by moistening her dry food or getting a food that is in smaller pieces. There are multivitamins available for senior cats, but they do not provide many calories. I hope this helps and am happy to answer any other questions you have!

VetriScience NuCat Multivitamin Everyday Health Bite Sized Chews available on chewy.com and amazon.com are highly palatable multivitamins that would be good to supplement Greg’s diet with. Prescription Royal Canin recovery canned diet is generally palatable (yummy) to even sick or hospitalized cats and is another option as well that your vet can either sell from his/her practice or prescribe. Good luck!

You should get glucosamine and SAMe tablets - they are natural supplements with scientific proof that they do something good for the joints. You should be able to get these products over-the-counter at pet shops or at the vets.
