Description
These air operated internal filters work as a mammoth or airlift pump. It is pushed into the standpipe via a hose by an air pump. The air draws aquarium water upwards with it in there, water flows back through the fine mesh sponge that provides an ideal surface, and thus purifies the aquarium water mechanically. The nitrifying bacteria important for pollutant breakdown settle inside the optimized sponges. These filters are ideal for rearing larvae and juvenile fish that otherwise would disappear in normal filters due to their small size and swimming behavior.

Is the tube supposed to be above tge water line?
- Above or below, it works either way

Does this filter need to be changed? I know the filters with cartridges need to be changed but for this one do you just rinse the sponge out..? If not, what refills do you buy?
- Filter did not need to be changed unless it's damaged and will not work properly. Yes, you would rinse it out by squeezing it into a bucket of water you just pulled from the aquarium or under luke warm water from the faucet. Do not use hot water or it will kill the beneficial bacteria. Also, it's best to use water from your tank whenever possible but if I can't, I have used water straight from the faucet. Just clean it quickly to avoid any chlorine killing your beneficial bacteria.

Would it work for baby ghost shrimp? I don't want them to get sucked in the filter.
- Yes, the filter is very fine so shrimp or baby fish will not get sucked into the filter. Just make sure u have a 10 gallon tank or bigger or the filter will be too tall.

I need a summary of how this works and how to set it up. Could anyone explain?
- It acts as a filter when attached to an air pump, but if U don’t have a deep tank this will not work, works great in my 20 gal tall and just fits in my 10 gal. I use it as a secondary filter but can be used as a stand alone filter if the bio load is light in your tank.

Would this be safe for a beta fish? What size tanks would it be compatible with?
- Yes, this would be fine of betta. I use mine with Medaka in a five gallon tank. You can trim the tubes if needed--depends how deep your sand bed is. There are two sizes, be sure to order the small one.
