Can I feed my puppy any types of Fruits or Vegetables? Something healthy for her.

Most fruits and vegetables are fine. You need to avoid grapes, raisins, onions, garlic or any fruits/veggies that are within these families. I would recommend green beans, peas, carrots, apples, bananas, sweet potato, lettuce and zucchini. Please post again if you have any further questions about Cookie!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Congratulations on the new puppy! I recommend purchasing a Small Breed Puppy food. Any of the well-known large dog food companies (Hills, Purina, Royal Canin, Blue Buffalo) will have excellent, well-balanced diets for puppies. There are feeding recommendations on the dog food bags that tell you how much to feed based on weight. Always make sure she has access to water. Do not feed human food, as many foods that we eat (chocolate, onions, garlic, avocado, raisins, grapes) are highly toxic to dogs. I hope this is helpful!

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Dogs can have fruits and vegetables and in particular some vegetables are good for teeth and digestion, like pumpkin or squash. Fruits that are good for dogs are apples, bananas, strawberries. Avoid any fruit that has pits as these can cause obstructions (peaches, nectarines, plums, etc). Avoid garlic, onions, grapes, raisins and chocolate- these are all very toxic to dogs. Carrots, cucumber, celery, broccoli, are all good as well. Best of luck with Toffee.

Yes, you can feed some vegetables in small amounts. Asparagus, Bell peppers (red, green, yellow), Broccoli, Carrots, Cauliflower, Celery, Cucumber, Green beans, Pumpkin, Sweet potato are all fine to feed to a dog. Do not feed anything with onions or garlic as they can both be toxic to dogs.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Jelly is so cute! She looks like an appropriate body condition so far, and since she is only 4 months old it is hard to know how big she will ultimately get. I recommend feeding her a normal puppy dry dog food, and feeding the recommended amount on the bag for her weight. It is safe to add in vegetables such as peas, carrots, broccoli, etc - but NO onions or garlic. Most fruits are safe too, such a berries, bananas, watermelon, etc. Hard boiled eggs are safe, but they are high in cholesterol so I wouldn't feed her more than 1/2 per day. Please keep in mind that a good quality puppy diet on its own will have ALL the nutrients and vitamins that she needs to grow appropriately, so it is not necessary to add in extra food. In fact, this could actually cause her to grow too quickly and become overweight, which can cause extra strain on the joints and predispose her to boney issues in the future. I hope this is helpful!

Is feeding my dog apples, carrots, and green beans safe?

Yes those are good. Never give grapes or raisins as they can cause kidney damage and death. Onions aren’t good or large amounts of garlic. I feed plain canned pumpkin which fills them up and increases the fiber in the diet to keep them regular. In addition please feed a good quality dog food so she gets the nutrients she needs. What fruits, vegetables, and diet are healthy for my dog to eat?

Dogs are omnivores and require an appropriate balance of nutrients as a part of a healthy diet. Most dogs do well with twice daily feedings. Typically, I recommend commercially prepared foods, such as Science Diet, Royal Canin, and Purina ProPlan. However, many people prefer preparing their dog's food at home. Balanceit.com is a website out of UC-Davis that has a wide variety of recipes for home cooked diets with appropriate vitamin and mineral supplementation. I am not aware of any appropriately balanced vegan diets for dogs, but a vegetarian diet is certainly possible. Common fruits and vegetables that Pelu could consume include green beans, peas, carrots, beans, and apples. I don't understand your question about "dollops" of fruits and vegetables. Simply follow any home cooked recipe closely and be sure to supplement so that Pelu does not experience any mineral deficiencies.
