My dog's leg is swollen and he's vomiting food. What should I do?

Based on your description, I would recommend having a veterinarian recheck Duke so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. The leg swelling could be due to an injury or a systemic illness. The coughing could be related to heart disease, respiratory disease, infection, allergies, etc. The coughing and leg swelling could also be related to heart disease. I would recommend chest x-rays to assess the heart and running what we call a ProBNP test to check and see if Duke is in heart failure. The sooner he is seen the better. There are multiple causes for leg swelling and lameness. These can range from injury to limb, tick borne disease, HOD (a disease where the bone "grows too fast"), injury to the soft tissue structures of the limb (ie tendons), wound on the limb, immune-mediated diseases or even an abnormality with the bone or cartilage. His panting could be from discomfort or pain. I am concerned that this is progressive. Unfortunately there are not any over the counter medications that can help without potentially causing damage to other parts of his body. As this has not resolved and is progressive your local veterinarian may be able to do a complete physical exam and localize the area of concern and recommend x-rays. Good luck with Dollar!

Oh no, poor Sansa! It could be that she is in a lot of pain from having her leash wrapped so tightly around her leg, and that is causing her to vomit. It's also serious that her whole leg is swollen. I would have Sansa seen by a vet immediately for a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, and x-rays. The vet can determine what damage, if any, was done to her leg from this and can discuss treatment options with you.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If you can see an an obvious swelling, I recommend taking Trigger to the vet. Many times with mild limping we don't see any swelling at all. So I worry that Trigger may have torn a muscle or have an abscess or other injury that may cause worse problems if left alone. Until he is seen, I recommend keeping him confined (as possible with a pup). If he is crate trained, then keep him crated and leash walks only until he is evaluated to prevent furhter injury. In the meantime, you could start a pain medication to help her out. I would recommend Well & Good Buffered Aspirin. You can find this product at PetCo and it is specifically for dogs. Follow the dosing on the bottle as directed. The veterinarian will likely give you a different medication that is safer to use long term. I hope this helps! I would definitely get x-rays of the leg tomorrow to look into this further and rule out any bone fractures.

Your Rex will need an x-ray to find out exactly which structures (bones, joints, tendons) are affected. Please, take him to your local vets as soon as possible as it does look serious.
