My 3-month-old husky puppy keeps scratching his neck sore. What to do?

Unfortunately hydrogen peroxide doesn't help pets with any type of skin condition. In fact we don't use it for any wounds because it can potentially cause cell necrosis (dying off of normal tissue). This appears to be a deep infection, which is likely why it hasn't healed well for you. You can try cleaning it with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water and the hair needs to be shaved around this to allow the skin to breathe and heal well. I would not place Neosporin on a wound like this, because it likely won't help. You may be able to find a hot spot spray at your local pet store that can be used. However, there is a good chance this won't heal without the help of your vet, who has stronger oral antibiotics and topical medical sprays to take care of this properly. It looks like what we call a hot spot or moist dermatitis. These looks really painful. I would have him seen. He will most likely need some antibiotics and some topical medication to help dry this up. They can also give you something for the itching or pain relief. These usually heal pretty quickly once they stop messing with them.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Phoebe. I do recommend that she sees her veterinarian. Her skin appears like it might be infected. In this case, she would need antibiotics and possibly a medicated shampoo to help her heal. This time of year allergies are common. Huskies as a breed though are prone to skin disease duc to a zinc deficiency. It is worth having her seen so that the cause can be identified and proper treatment started. I hope this is helps!

Hi and thanks for posting! Fleas are one very common cause of skin irritation in dogs and cats. Flea collars may or may not work well. Over the counter flea treatments may not work very well either as they contain ingredients in them that have been around for many years and fleas have built up a resistance to them. Another common cause of skin irritation are allergies. Seasonal allergies are common. Sometimes seasonal allergies can be controlled with anti-histamines and certain other medications from Mia's veterinarian that help alleviate symptoms. Looks like Mia's skin is red and does looks infected. She may need antibiotics from Mia's vet to help resolve.

Unfortunately, there is no way for you to treat Rocky Road's sore without seeing a vet. It's infected if there is pus and that requires antibiotics to treat which are available by prescription only from the vet. I would take him into the vet first thing tomorrow.

That heavy discharge generally indicates infection. Your pup will heal the fastest if he goes in to see his doctor. The doctor may give him a systemic antibiotic or may only give him topicals if the lesion is very small. Sometimes these pets can be itchy as well and will get medication for that too. You definitely want to make sure that he cannot itch or lick at that area as it will make it worse. The doctor will also shave the hair as it needs to be exposed to the air to dry up. This looks like an infected skin wound. It is possible that the wound was due to some sort of trauma or it could be because Noah was scratching. Either way, Noah will need oral antibiotics in order for this wound to heal. It is unlikely that any topical treatment alone will help.
