My cat has an infection. Is Kiskin safe? How do I help her heal?

Poor Coco! The main thing is to make sure she isn't messing with it (i.e. chewing, scratching or licking). I would put a cone collar on her or a baby t-shirt to help prevent this. It will never heal if she doesn't stop messing with it. I would also consider some Benadryl to control the itching. See link below for dosing. Finally, I am personally not familiar with that cream and not sure if it is safe for cats so I would call your vet and double check. If it is okay, I think it would be fine to continue that to see if that helps with the infection. If not, I would have your vet take a look at Coco so they can get her started on the proper meds to help her feel better. I hope this helps!

If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then they are infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it.

Is Fucidin cream safe for cat's infected spay wound if she licks it?

Hi there. You can sure use the Fucidin cream. Just use a thin layer and apply it twice daily. Try to distract her after applying it so if she does lick it it will have at least been on there for a bit to have some contact time to work! If she licks it she will be fine :) Good question! Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Boncuk. Poor girl, that looks awful. I would put a cone on her head so she cannot lick the wounds. You can get one from the vet if you do not have one already. I would keep her indoors at all times during the next 2 weeks to enable her to heal. Do not let her outside at all. Keep the wound area clean and dry, and monitor for signs of infection. If you see pus, swelling, warmth to the touch, she's lethargic, or has a loss of appetite, take her back into the vet immediately. I hope this helps!

It would be best to consider an E-collar to prevent all licking and to give the skin a chance to heal. I do recommend that if her skin isn't better in a few days that you have a Vet look at her. What to do for a cat's severe skin infection before the vet?

Oh my. I can see that your pet has a severe infection here. You wil need to take your kitty to the vet to have this taken care of unfortunately. This is too severe to treat at home. Until you can get her seen its best to soak this area well with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water to help antisepitcally clean it. The vet ill need to get her on oral antibiotics or an injectable antibiotic that they can give that lasts for 2 weeks. She also will need to have this area shaved to remove the hair and possibly a topical prescribed by your vet. I do hope that your fur baby Crunchie is able to get this resolved soon!
