My cat ate a thread, now it's coming out. Is this an emergency?

You did the right thing by cutting the thread. NEVER pull on a string or thread like that. If it is threaded back through her intestines it can cut through. Because this may be the case, I would get her checked by your vet as soon as possible, especially if she starts showing signs of sickness, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, etc.

It happens that a longer piece of thread or yarn can tangle around the base of the tongue or gets stuck above the soft palate. It could be the case in Delta. Ife the yarn has tangled up around the tongue, you should be able to see it if Delta lets you open her mouth wide. If it got stuck above the palate, you won't be able to see it. It is not much that you can do at home to help her. She should be seen by a vet for sedation and throat examination.

Poor Echo! You did the right thing by making him a vet appointment tomorrow morning. In the meantime, don't pull on the dangling piece of thread, as this can cause further damage. I would suggest not feeding him after midnight tonight, in case your veterinarian needs to sedate him to safely remove the thread.

Definitely do not pull the plastic out. It could be anchored "further up" and you may do significant damage to her gastrointestinal tract by pulling on it. Monitor her closely over the next day or so for lethargy, vomiting, and decreased or absent appetite, and check the litterbox to see that she eventually does poop it out. If you don't see the plastic, or any of those signs develop, take her in to your veterinarian.

Hello, sorry to hear about Yin. I would recommend having your veterinarian assess Yin. String foreign material can be a cause of severe intestinal obstruction and damage. Thread can cause something we call a linear foreign body which can be very serious. Poor girl. Unfortunately the only thing you can do now is to monitor her for any signs of a foreign body obstruction, which includes excessive vomiting, lethargy, lack of appetite, or small stool size. If you see these symptoms then a vet visit is recommended to have testing done and determine if she will need surgery to remove the cloth that she ingested. I hope that she will be ok.
