Birds can sometimes considering being higher up than another object as "being above it" in a hierarchical sense. Interacting with Kiwi while keeping him on a lower perch, or encouraging him to step down lower with a treat prior to interacting may help reduce any aggression or biting behaviors while perched higher.

Time, patience, and lots of treats. If you notice Curio has a favorite food, you can start by offering that favorite food only when you're interacting with him. IE, when you pet him, approach his cage, let him out, etc. This can help him to associate you with something fun/good and also make him more curious every time you come by to spend time with him. The same can also be done with toys he likes to play with. Sitting near them when he's out of the cage playing, and feeding a treat every time he comes close or shows interest in you can help teach him that you are safe to interact with and play around. If at any time Curiou becomes nervous or scared, stopping the activity and letting him calm down is best. From there, you can go back to the previous way he was OK with (IE just giving a treat from your hand but not petting) and work again from there.

Hello! I am so happy to hear you are looking to improve your birds nutrition! Nutrition is the foundation of good health in birds and is so important! I recommend ZuPreem, Roudybush, Lafeber, or Harrison pellets. You can buy all of these except Harrison’s at your local PetCo or other pet store. It’s important to feed about 75% of the diet as a complete, high quality pelleted food. The brand you chose is less important and will often be dictated by what Charlie prefers (for example, my bird hates Harrison’s, but loves ZuPreem, so that’s what I buy). The remaining 25% of the diet should be mostly fresh vegetables (10-20%) with a small portion of seeds and other treats like fruit and nuts. I usually recommend that owners save the really tasty but not nutritionally sound treats like sunflower seeds, nuts, dried fruit for training. If Charlie only gets treats when he’s interacting with you, this will help improve and solidify your bond. If your bird is really attached to eating seeds, this transition can be quite difficult. The process of transitioning from seeds to pellets can be involved, and I’d be happy to provide a consultation on this topic if you would like. As for the bad breath, that can mean many things. It could be nothing at all and just a side effect of the food you’re feeding, as you suggested. It’s also possible it could be an infection. However, since you say Charlie is otherwise acting normally, I’d be inclined to believe it’s just from the food. I hope this was helpful! Please let me know if I can help in any other way. Good luck to you and Charlie!

Thanks for reaching out about Sweetie and including photos. Offering table food, letting him see you eat it and then sharing. Decreasing hand feeding might leave him hungry. Continue to try. Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear your bird passed away. The Mazuri diet is great. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the Higgins seeds. I think you would have been better off using the Mazuri only. It is a complete feed and you should not need to supplement with anything else. Were you giving many high calcium/oxalate veggies? He may have had an underlying kidney issue which would have predisposed him to the gout. That is probably the most likely scenario.
